Avoiding Mass Extinctions Engine

Avoiding Mass Extinctions Engine (abbreviated AMEE) is a software project that is designed to create a standard for carbon dioxide data, algorithms and profiling.

Contents

Overview

AMEE comprises of a scientific library and software API service to enable access to a wealth of information about emissions data (including Greenhouse Gases ) relevant to business and consumer activity. It comprises of;

  1. neutral aggregation of international, public and proprietary standards, models and data into a common platform
  2. standardised access to all data, content and algorithms
  3. a profiling engine to track any consumption and activity data (e.g. kWh, fuel, materials)
  4. a search engine to make the underlying methodologies discoverable, transparent and open
  5. linked data, provenance and authority metadata

Background

AMEE was initially developed by UK company d::gen in 2005, and from 2007 used for the UK Government's Act on CO2 Carbon Calculator, as part of a campaign against Global warming. AMEE Inc (US) and AMEE UK Limited were created in 2008, and AMEE then raised venture capital funding.

Users

It is used by the UK Government (Defra and the Act On CO2 campaign), SAS Institute and others.
